Big Opportunity for Youth: Punjab Government Launches Mental Health Fellowship
Mental health fellows to be appointed under the “War Against Drugs” campaign, with a monthly stipend of ₹60,000
Chandigarh, Dec 2025 – Punjab has taken a historic and groundbreaking step in the field of mental health. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched the country’s first government leadership program in mental health, emphasizing that the “War Against Drugs” is not just a slogan but a real, on-the-ground fight, with the safety and future of every family at stake. The fellowship will span two years and aims to become a model not only for Punjab but for the entire country.
This initiative, started in partnership with AIIMS Mohali and TISS Mumbai, will elevate mental health and drug prevention efforts across 23 districts. The government is selecting 35 young experts who have studied psychology or social work and possess experience in mental health. These fellows will work across Punjab’s villages, towns, schools, colleges, community centers, and rehabilitation facilities to implement a model integrating prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation—something unprecedented in India.
CM Bhagwant Mann believes that fighting addiction is not just the responsibility of the police or administration; it requires strengthening the mind of society. Reflecting this vision, the program will provide fellows with specialized training, mentorship, and leadership development from TISS Mumbai. Each fellow will receive a respectable monthly remuneration of ₹60,000, enabling them to work full-time with youth and families in Punjab without any external pressures.
This initiative reflects the very heartbeat of Punjab. While addiction had spread like an epidemic, the state has now decided to tackle it scientifically, with experts on the ground engaging directly with the community. Mann has demonstrated that when intentions are clear and the goal is public welfare, governments deliver real change—not just statements.
Applications are open until December 7, and more information is available at https://tiss.ac.in/lmhp. This fellowship is more than just a program; it is an investment in Punjab’s future—a future where every home is safe, every young person is healthy, and parents can raise their children without fear of addiction.
This is the Punjab that Bhagwant Mann envisioned, and it is gradually becoming a reality.
