Vandalising Messi’s Kolkata GOAT Tour Was A Political Vendetta – Two Sides Of The Coin.

Kolkata; December 2025: The political feud in West Bengal took a starker stance, when Assembly LoP Suvendu Adhikary, demanded the resignation of West Bengal Sports Minister Arup Biswas, along with Fire Minister Sujit Bose, today – 14th December 2025.

Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said,

“The police here are sunk in corruption and used for the service of the TMC government. The police have lost their credibility. They were not aware of how to manage such a big star’s event. The way in which the sports minister, the Fire minister along with CM Mamata Banerjee’s relatives wanted to have selfie with the Football icon. Fans who purchased tickets to have a look at Messi were denied to see the star. CM Mamata Banerjee fled to her home. The youth is very angry with the events“.

He further said that,

“the BJP Yuva Morcha is agitating today. “Satadru Dutta has been sent to police custody. After few days when the focus will change, he will definitely get bail. Bengal has an emotional connection with football, which is well known. CM Mamata Banerjee, her tainted ministers has ended that. We have three demands. Sports Minister Aroop Biswas and Fire Minister Sujit Bose should be suspended. There should be FIR against them. Those who purchased tickets worth Rs 8000 to Rs 15000, their money should be refunded immediately. The government should recommend Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court and under a sitting judge, the investigation should be conducted without the involvement of the police. The primary report should be submitted in one month“.

Later in the day at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Hyderabad, Lionnel Messi took part in a 7-on 7 exhibition football match involving the state’s Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, soaked in the love from a passionate and loud audience.

Messi also met the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The superstar footballer have presented Rahul Gandhi with his iconic number 10 Argentina jersey as the Congress leader posed for a picture with him and his Inter Miami teammates, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul. Mr. Gandhi have also presented Messi a memento.

The football legend was also felicitated by the Telangana Chief Minister with a memento. Messi, also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, gave some children present at the venue a memory of a lifetime as he

kicked the ball around the park with them for a few moments.

Meanwhile, reacting to Suvendu Adhikari’s allegations, Trinamool Congress spokesperson, and former Rajya Sabha Member Kunal Ghosh asked on Sunday if the bedlam was orchestrated to defame Kolkata, and an investigation should be conducted to find out whether this was done deliberately or not.

Speaking to reporters, Ghosh said,

“What happened was very unfortunate. It happened even before the Chief Minister arrived, but the Chief Minister has set up an inquiry committee for it. It was the fault of the private organisers, but football fans did not commit the vandalism; it was carried out by people chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. This will be investigated… Some people were carrying flags and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ while vandalising the place; these cannot be football fans. Therefore, this aspect also needs to be looked into. First, there was an attempt to defame West Bengal, then the SIR incident happened, the Bengali language was insulted, and now this incident at a private organiser’s event! was it done to defame Kolkata? Whether this was done deliberately or not should also be investigated“.

Earlier, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya on Sunday blamed Trinamool Congress leaders for the chaos

during the GOAT India Tour of Messi in Kolkata, accusing them of making a “private spectacle” of themselves. Sharing an image of TMC Minister Aroop Biswas family and Akash Banerjee, nephew of Mamata Banerjee with Lionel Messi at the Salt Lake Stadium, Amit Malviya said, “Yesterday’s programme at Yuva Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) was meant to celebrate football in a city that lives and breathes the sport, and to give Lionel Messi’s fans a moment to cherish. Instead, the event was reduced to a private spectacle reserved for a select few from the Banerjee-Biswas circle“.

Amit Malviya further accused TMC leaders of playing with fans emotions. He added that the chaos unfolded at the event,

“was deeply damaging to the image of a city. While ordinary fans waited with hope, their emotions were played with, and their passion for football was taken for granted. What unfolded on the ground was painful to watch and deeply damaging to the image of a city known worldwide for its love of the beautiful game. Organisers are now being turned scapegoat for chaos. Now, an organiser is being conveniently turned into a scapegoat. But the people of Kolkata have already identified the real culprits behind this disgrace“.
