It is made up of two crescent-shaped landmass that meet to form the symbol “OM”, a sacred sound and spiritual icon in Indian religions. It is considered to be the primordial sound of the universe and is said to represent the entire universe. Gokarna has been a centre for Hindu pilgrims for centuries and is believed to be a significant place for worshipping Lord Shiva.
OM Beach is generally safe for visitors during the day, with lifeguards present at certain times. However, like many beaches, it’s advisable to be vigilant, especially in the water. How to get there
1.By Air: – The nearest airport is Dabolim Airport (GOI) in Goa approximately 140 kms from Gokarna. From the airport, the visitors can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Gokarna.
2. By Train: – The closest railway station is Gokarna Road, which is around 8 km from OM Beach. Regular trains connect Karnataka cities like Bangalore, Mangalore, and Mumbai to Gokarna Road. From Gokarna Road, tourists can take a taxi or an auto-rickshaw to OM Beach.
3. By Bus: – There are frequent state-run and private buses connecting Gokarna to nearby cities. Gokarna has a main bus stand from where local transportation can be availed.
4. By Car: – For the tourists who are driving, Gokarna is well-connected by road. It is approximately 485 kms from Bangalore and 200 kms from Mangalore.

Local taxis and auto-rickshaws provide convenient, affordable transport, commonly costing ₹100–₹500 for shorter distances.
