A Project to Revolutionize Motor Manufacturing in the State – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that Toyota Kirloskar’s project at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will not only benefit Marathwada but will also revolutionize India’s motor vehicle manufacturing industry. An MoU was signed between the state government’s Industries Department and Toyota Kirloskar for a greenfield project to manufacture electric and hybrid cars at Auric City in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The signing ceremony took place today at Sahyadri Guest House.

Present at the event were Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Industries Minister Uday Samant, Housing Minister Atul Save, Kirloskar Motors Vice Chairman Mansi Tata, Geetanjali Kirloskar, Toyota Kirloskar Managing Director Masakazu Yoshimura, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Iqbal Singh Chahal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Srikar Harshdeep Kamble, Principal Secretary of the Department of Foreign Industries, and MIDC CEO Vipin Sharma.

The project, set to produce electric and hybrid cars at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, involves an investment of ₹20,000 crore and will create around 16,000 jobs—8,000 direct and 8,000 indirect. The plant is expected to produce 400,000 cars annually and will occupy 850 acres of land.

Chief Minister Shinde emphasized that the Toyota project would revolutionize India’s e-car manufacturing industry. He highlighted the state government’s support for electric vehicles, including promoting their use in public transport and making legal changes to facilitate the installation of charging stations in housing societies. Maharashtra offers excellent connectivity, skilled manpower, infrastructure, and space, making it an ideal location for Toyota’s technology and expertise. Shinde also noted that Maharashtra is a leader in foreign investment, with 80 percent of the $60 million agreements signed in Davos in the last two years already implemented.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the agreement as historic, noting that while Maharashtra has many automobile sectors, it was incomplete without Toyota. The addition of Toyota completes the sector, and the Marathwada Chamber of Commerce Group will provide maximum cooperation. The investment will create employment and drive economic progress in Marathwada. Fadnavis reiterated the goal of making Maharashtra’s economy worth $1 trillion and emphasized the state’s strong export facilities, including the expanding JNPT port and the new dry port in Jalna.

Masakazu Yoshimura expressed his confidence in choosing Maharashtra for the project, noting Toyota’s longstanding relationship with India and its commitment to contributing to the development of India and Maharashtra. Mansi Tata thanked the state government for its support. Principal Secretary Harshdeep Kamble outlined the role behind the project, and Deputy Chief Minister’s Special Task Officer Kaustubh Dhavse moderated the event.

Chief Minister Shinde concluded his speech with greetings in Japanese, “Konichiwa,” and thanked the audience with “Arigato Gozaimasu.”
